Auto locksmith software

Job apps made for plumbers and electricians are built around a house and a work order. An auto locksmith's business is built around a car and a part. Nyrano is the second kind, made for auto locksmiths in the UK and Ireland.

What should auto locksmith software do?

Auto locksmith software should keep a record for every car you touch (make, model, year, colour, VIN, number plate, key blank, transponder chip, remote frequency, bitting), count key blanks and chips as real stock that drops when a job uses them, and tie the quote, the parts and the payment to the same job. General field service software does scheduling and invoicing well, but it has no place for a chip type or a key blank, so that data ends up in a notes box where nobody can search it.

Why general field service apps fall short for car key work

Tools such as Tradify, ServiceM8 and Jobber are good products. They are made for trades that visit a property: plumbing, heating, cleaning, electrical work. Their customer record is a person with an address. Their stock list, where they have one, is a price book of services and materials.

A car key business does not work that way:

  • The record that matters is the car. The same customer comes back with a second car, or the same car comes back with a new owner. What you need to find in ten seconds is what that car takes.
  • The margin lives in the parts. A smart key can cost you more than the labour you charge. If stock and job costs are not connected, you do not know which jobs make money.
  • The van is the warehouse. Running out of one common chip means a lost job or a drive back to the shop. Stock has to be visible on a phone, with a warning before it runs out.
  • The customer did not choose you. They called whoever answered. Whether they call you again depends on what happens in the days after the job.

Nyrano is built on those four facts.

A car key job in Nyrano, start to finish

  1. The call. A customer has lost the only key to a 2016 Ford Focus. You open a new job on your phone, add the customer and the car, and choose to send a price first.
  2. The quote. You add the lines: key blank, transponder chip, cutting, programming, call-out. You send the quote as a link from your phone, by WhatsApp, text or any app in the share menu. The customer opens it on their own phone, sees the total with VAT, ticks a box and types their name to accept. Their yes is saved with that name and the time, and you get a notification.
  3. The schedule. You set the time. With a team, you assign the job to a technician, who sees it in the mobile app.
  4. On the way. The technician taps "Head out". The web dispatch board shows each van on a map while its technician is on shift, and you can send the customer a link with the job status and an arrival time.
  5. The work. The parts on the job come off stock when the job starts. The key blank, chip and bitting are saved on the car record, so the spare key next year is a two-minute quote.
  6. The payment. You record cash, card terminal or bank transfer, in full or in part, and Nyrano keeps track of anything still owed.
  7. The day after. The customer gets a WhatsApp message from your own business number asking if the key works. Replies land in your WhatsApp Business app, and if a reply says something is wrong, you get an email so you can call back and fix it.

What Nyrano stores for each vehicle

Field Example
Make, model, year, colour Ford Focus, 2016, silver
VIN and number plate Type the plate to find the car in your own records. A UK plate you have not seen before fills in make, model, year and colour from the DVSA MOT records
Key blank HU101
Transponder chip 4D63 (80-bit)
Remote frequency 433 MHz
Bitting Saved once you have decoded the lock
Notes "Second key, dealer remote. Customer keeps the spare at work."
History Every job, part and price for that car

Inventory built for key blanks and chips

Each blank, chip, remote, shell and battery is a stock item with a quantity, a cost price, a selling price and a reorder level. Parts come off stock when the job starts. A supplier order puts them back and records what you paid that time. The low-stock list shows what is under its reorder level, the app warns you when a part runs low, and the mobile app lets you correct a count from the van when you find a miscounted drawer. A shop with vans can keep stock per van: each van has its own count, parts on a job come off the van of the technician doing it, and the technician loads the van from the shop.

This matters more for car keys than for most trades. A shop that does five car key jobs a day touches hundreds of small, expensive, easy-to-lose parts a month. A count that is right on Friday is the difference between buying what you need and buying what you think you need.

Does Nyrano look up key codes or decode a VIN?

No. Nyrano is not a key code database and it does not turn a VIN into a key code or a chip type. Keep using your code service and your programmer's vehicle coverage for that. What Nyrano does is remember the answer: once you have worked on a car, its blank, chip, frequency and bitting stay on the record, tied to the customer and the job history.

Does it work for a one-person mobile locksmith?

Yes. A solo operator can turn the team features off, which hides dispatch, assignment and technician tracking. What is left is the core: jobs, quotes, customers and their cars, stock, payments, reports and follow-ups. The Android app covers the roadside half of the day, and the web app is there for the evening half: supplier orders, reports, settings. There is no iPhone app yet.

Which countries and languages does it support?

Nyrano is made for auto locksmiths in the UK and Ireland, and the app is in English, Romanian and German. Quotes are in pounds or euros with VAT added (20 percent at the UK standard rate), and the customer's quote page shows dates the UK way. The WhatsApp follow-up suits the UK and Ireland, where customers already use WhatsApp to message the businesses they deal with.

What does Nyrano not do yet?

Nyrano is in early access, and some things are not built yet: an iPhone app, plate lookup for Irish plates, key code lookup and VIN decoding, card payments, and UK invoices with a Xero link. In more detail:

  • No iPhone app yet. The phone app is for Android, installed directly on your phone during early access. The web app works in a phone browser in the meantime.
  • No plate lookup for Irish plates. In Ireland, typing a plate finds the car in your own records only. UK plates are looked up in the DVSA MOT records.
  • No key code lookup or VIN decoding. Keep your code service for that.
  • No card payments. Nyrano records a payment taken on your card terminal; it does not take the payment itself.
  • No UK invoices or Xero link yet. Nyrano records the charge, the VAT and the payment, and you issue the invoice in your own invoicing or accounting tool.

How do I try it?

Nyrano is free during the early-access beta. Request access from the home page, or book a live demo and bring the questions that matter for your shop. Gabriel, the founder, sets up each new shop himself, including moving your customers and stock in from a spreadsheet.
